The high-profile, long-awaited Standard Chartered transaction was managed by Credit Suisse. The c.$1bn deal involved a number of internal and external stakeholders; it enabled the bank to sell additional private equity assets on balance sheet and assisted with the spinout of the investment team, which will continue as an independent manager, marking the final step in the bank’s plan to exit its private equity business. The transaction portfolio comprised private equity investments in 35 companies across South-east Asia, India, China, South Korea, the Middle East and Africa. The transaction was backed by funds managed by ICG Strategic Equity and the portfolio will be managed by Affirma Capital, the newly formed, independent private equity firm owned and operated by the former senior leadership of Standard Chartered Private Equity.
